Description | The year 2024 will mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Luboš Ogoun (18 February 1924 - 14 February 2009), an important Czech choreographer and one of the most prominent figures of modern ballet. In the year of this anniversary, the Pavel Šmok Foundation and Institute has published a new monograph as part of its editorial series "Studio Ballet Prague and Prague Chamber Ballet - History and Personalities". The publication has been undertaken by dance historian Kateřina Šalounová, who focuses on the history of ballet after the Second World War, and dance publicist Lucie Kocourková, who has already had a successful career in the field of non-fiction and has written, among other things, a monograph on the Studio Balet Praha company and choreographer Pavel Šmok. The publication provides an overview of Luboš Ogoun's choreographic work, analyses his methods, artistic views, and his innovative approach to modern ballet, which was particularly important in the 1960s. As a co-founder of Ballet Prague, he was, together with Pavel Šmok, at the forefront of a progressive line of Czech choreography, which the theoretician and dramaturge Vladimír Vašut described as a "new wave". Luboš Ogoun created a number of important works for the Brno Ballet, choreographed and directed other productions in the field of opera, operetta and drama, and collaborated with other theatres as well as film and television. He also worked with Czechoslovak modern gymnasts, and was a coach of the Olympian Eva Bosáková. The book is published with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the State Culture Fund, the Czech Music Fund Foundation, the Czech Literary Fund Foundation and the Instit of Pavel Šmok. |
