Description The chapter presents the results of a grant project focused mainly on research into the history of Czech Polish Studies up to 1939. The project traced the development of the field from the birth of Czech interest in Polish language and literature during the National Revival to the closure of Czech universities during the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. The research team focused on early Czech Polish interests, their motivation, and the circumstances of their emergence (linguistic relations, polonophilia, the formation of Slavonic studies), as well as on the critical evaluation of the first scholarly works. In the period from 1923, after the establishment of the Department of Polish Language and Literature at Charles University in Prague and lectureships at the Masaryk University in Brno and Comenius University in Bratislava, the project focused on the development of Czech and partly Slovak university Polish Studies, especially in the field of linguistics and literary studies, in the broader context of Czech-Polish relations. The main output of the project is a collective monograph presenting a synthesis of the history of Czech (and also Slovak) Polish Studies.
