| Description | Kafkárna is a unique, almost 100-year-old building in Prague's Ořechovka district, which was created for monumental realisations of Czech sculptor Bohumil Kafka (especially the statue of Jan Žižka in Prague's Vítkov). At the beginning of the 1990s, the studio was acquired for students of UMPRUM by Kurt Gebauer, the head of the Sculpture Studio at UMPRUM. In recent years, the premises have been used not only as an art workshop but also as a venue of the Centre for Art and Ecology UMPRUM. The exhibition HOUSE & GARDEN offers several levels and different themes: it documents the development and transformation of the place and its use; it presents the transformation of the space itself; the history of the building and its garden; it maps a series of events for local residents or the general public. All this is supported by documentation including historical photographs, videos and, above all, artistic artefacts associated with the site. Kafkárna can be characterised as a place full of life and creative activity. The exhibition is therefore not only limited to the presentation of artistic production, but also places great emphasis on the current Kafkaaren programme. The atmosphere of the place will be conveyed by numerous accompanying events, which will not only focus on the gallery itself, but on the entire UMPRUM building on nám. Jana Palacha. |
