| Description | The new, modern fortifications built in three phases by Italian and French engineers since 1700 until 1742 (last construction phase Pierre Philippe Bechade de Rochepine) became the visual symbol of the city around the middle of the 18th century. In connection with the Prussian danger, however, other military buildings (the armory and the new city barracks) were also designed. |
