Description The environment in the studied part of the Carpathian Foredeep in the Lower Miocene (Eggenburgian, Ottnangian) was extraordinarily variable. The sedimentation took place in a subtropical climate and in the near-shore zone. The changes of the marine environment are connected with the sea level changes and with variable rates and intensities of sediment accumulation. Flora and fauna reflect all environmental changes very sensitively.
