Description | The book seeks to answer questions why there has been such a deep decrease in nuptiality and fertility in the Czech Republic during the 1990s. Its main thesis is that the primary cause of these demographic changes is fundamental value change among the Czech youth which leads to new perception of the meaning of dyadic partnership, marriage, family life and children. The narrative of the book follows the lines of the Second demographic transition which has been occurring in the Western countries from the late 1960s. The book shows that current Czech demographic trends are logical consequences of modernisation of Czech society triggered of by social transformation. |
