Description Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) belongs to the new brain stimulating method. VNS improves pharmacoresistant epilepsy. Based on the results of an open acute and long-term study its efficacy was provd also in pharmacoresistant depression. VNS is relatively well tolerated, the most frequent side-effects are mild change of voice and hoarseness.
