Description | DA-complexes py.SeO2 (py=pyridine) and TMA.SeO2 (TMA=trimethylamine) were prepared by direct reactions of solid selenium dioxide with the corresponding nitrogenous bases. They are both white solids decomposing slowly already at room temperature. py.SeO2 decomposes into its components, while TMA.SeO2 undergoes a redox reaction. The single crystal structure determination of py.SeO2 revealed that the chain-like structure of (SeO2)n cleaves during the formation of DA-bond and each molecule Py.SeO2 is joined with the nearest neighbouring molecule through two weak Se...O interactions. More labile DA-complex TMA.SeO2 could not be prepared as single crystals. The analogical molecular structure of both complexes was proved by their vibrational spectra. |
