Description The study investigated the tendency of people to be unrealistically optimistic about future life event. The university students estimated how much their own chances of experiencing 30 events differed from the chances of their classmates. Cognitive and motivational consideration led to predictions that degree od desirability, perceived probability, personal experience, perceived controllability, and stereotype salience would influence the amount of optimistic bias evoked by different event.
