Description The aim of the present study was to ascertain the influence of 5-HT2 antagonist cyproheptadine on methamphetamine i.v. self-administration in rats. From our results, the number of the correct resonses, i.e. number of self-infusions with methamphetamine was dose-dependently changed after cyproheptadine treatment. in summary, these data indicate that cyproheptadine should hypothetically serve in the future as a drug for the treatment of methamphetamine dependence. However, the specific mechanisms underlying the involvement of 5-HT2 receptors in the reward properties of methamphetamine are complex and remain to be more fully resolved.
