Description We compared programmed cell death pathways in two leukemic cell lines human promonocytes U937 a chicken monoblasts BM2 upon induction with cytotoxic agents As2O3, cycloheximide and camptothecin. We found that cell death pathways induced by these agents in U937 and BM2 cells are different. Under conditions when U937 cells undergo caspase-mediated apoptosis, BM2 cells die by caspase-independent death pathway. Camptothecin induces autophagy in BM2 cells. The v-Myb oncoprotein efficiently expressed in BM2 cells is presumably significantly engaged in regulation of programmed cell death pathways in leukemic cells.
