Hieracium bauhini group in Central Europe: chromosome numbers and breeding systems

Description Chromosome numbers for 239 plants of Hieracium bauhini group from 84 localities in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Germany and Poland are given, three ploidy level were detected: tetraploid (2n = 36), pentaploid (2n = 45, most populations) and hexaploid (2n = 54). Tetraploid plants occurred mainly in Slovakia and Hungary, pentaploids and hexaploids in the Czech Republic and Germany. Reproduction mode was studied in some plants: tetraploids were sexual, pentaploids and hexaploids were apomictic.
