Description This article deals with epiphany in the work by the Brazilian writer J. Guimarăes Rosa. It focuses on his collection of short stories Primeiras Estórias, which is analyzed in comparison with J. Joyce and C. Lispector, whose fiction is marked by the attempt to describe the process of epiphany. The aim of the article is to point out similarities and differencies in the way epiphany, on of the key terms of Modernist aesthetics, is rendered in literary works by the above-mentioned writers.
