Description Decreased heart rate variability is a marker of increased risk of sudden cardiac death. For this reason the relationship between intima-media thickness of carotid artery (IMT) and short time and 24-hours heart rate variability together with blood pressure variability was followed in the present study. The relation between intima-media thickness and heart-rate variability determined from 24-hours Holter monitoring was not found. Decreased short time heart-rate variabilities of 5-minute recording by Finapres correspond to decreased baroreflex in patients with increased intima-media thickness.
