Description | Alpine-style deformation in central Bohemia has been known since 1907, but the idea of Barrandian nappe structures was only resurrected in 1999. Four main arguments for the presence of nappe structures are: 1. The duplication of the stratigraphic sequences along thrusts; 2. Flat-and-ramp geometry of the thrusts (with large bedding-parallel detachments); 3. Top-to-the southsoutheast (SSE) movement on detachment thrusts; 4. Tectonic juxtaposition of different facies. The upper allochthonous unit is characterized by shallow-water facies and the lower allochthonous unit consists mostly of deep facies (black shales). The lower to middle Ordovician rocks are autochthonous. The thrusting age is probably Frasnian (app. 380 Ma), the synformal structure was formed during the Lower Carboniferous. |
