Description The aim of this work was to determine whether transformation by v-Myb can be suppressed by human p53 protein in leukemic monoblasts. Therefore, human p53 gene was successfully expressed in BM2 monoblasts. Increased level of the p53 protein induced growth arrest in G2 phase of the cell cycle and differenition to more mature stages exhibiting increased adherency, phagocytosis, production of reactive oxygen radicals and alpha-naphtyl esterase. These results document that p53 tumor suppressor is dominant over v-Myb, suppresses its activity in transformed cells and resumes their natural differentiation capabilities.
