Description This work deals with the inhibitory effects of arsenic ions on the oxidation of elemental sulfur by acidophilic chemolithoautotrophic mesophilic bacteria Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans. The bacteria play an important role in nature and biotechnology because they are involved in the biodegradation of sulfide minerals, including arsenopyrite. Its biooxidation is inhibited by arsenite and arsenate ions as well as by other toxic metals. Inhibition of elemental sulfur oxidation by arsenic is a part of overall inhibitory reactions.
