Description In the present study I have developed a set of counterexamples against causal theory of proper names. All of them show unreliability of causal chains which thus do not serve as guarantees of reference (neither referential, nor attributive). I discuss some possible remedies which may be required by causal theory. However none seems to be sufficient because the speaker transferring a name may swindle, s/he may be confused, the whole our community may be mistaken (so it is easy to generate infinite number of counterexamples based on the examples I have given).
