| Description | More than one third of the economically active population commutes in the Czech Republic. The last census showed that in 2001 the number reached 36,5 % (1,7 million persons). The biggest commuting centres in Moravia and Silesia were the cities of Brno, Ostrava and Olomouc. The authors assess changes in commuting to these cities, which occurred during the 1990s. They delimit commuting hinterlands of these cities in 2001 and compare them to the situation in 1991. They claim that the development of commuting to these cities was very different. It was strongly influenced by the character of the economic basis of the cities, which was established before 1989. |
