Description The general reconstruction of the severely dilapidated Dietrichstein family tomb in Mikulov triggered the anthropological research on the skeletal remains of a part of the princely Dietrichstein family, interred in the tomb. Forty-five members of the Dietrichstein family are buried in the tomb. In the past, some of the coffins were damaged by burglars searching for valuables in the coffins of the most prominent members of the family. Disintegration of other coffins was caused by their age and fatigue of material. Since the skeletal remains had to be removed from the coffins prior to their reconstruction, it was decided that an anthropological research of the skeletal remains would be carried out. Field research at the Mikulov tomb began in the summer of 2000 and continued throughout the next research period in the summer of 2001. During the field research, skeletal remains of the Dietrichstein family members were lifted out of the damaged coffins, and the site was documented. All findings, apart from the skeletal remains, were immediately handed over to the Regional Museum in Mikulov for expert examination.
