Description | The article focuses on the Roman Catholic priest in Bludov (Czech Republic, the Olomouc Region) František Alois Ermis (4th September 1849 - 3rd May 1912). Ermis became distinctively involved at the local level of the social system, in the region, where Czech and German nations lived together. He lived in the times, when the self-confidence of Czech nation was constantly growing up. On the one hand Ermis defended the Czech national demands (e.g. he was one of the co-founders of the first Czech grammar school at the North Moravia in Zábřeh and the Czech junior secondary school in Bludov) on the other hand he defended the demands of the political Catholicism. The article is noticing his political opinions, his activities in local politics in Bludov, his influence on the interest organizations, the educational system and above all his role in so-called Konečný affair. In this mark of "Czech Kulturkampf" he played one of the decisive roles. He was the architect of the victory of the catholic lager in this battle with the liberal lager. |
