Description The paper analyzes tendencies nad events within the political system of the Czech Republic that determinated stability and decisiveness of the established governments. These governments formed our economic policy and generated institucional principles of long-run economic growth. We are persuaded that there are relatively close relations between policy and economy which allow mutual influences between (un)favourable developments in our politics and the Czech economy. At the beginning of this work we are going to emphasize why political system in the ČSSR in years 1948-1989 reduced the motivation of subjects to highter performance and limited various interests which resulted in the economic decline of country. Nevertheless we will mainly focus on the establisment of the new democratic political system after the Velvet revolution and its impact on competitive environment until year 2005.
