Description The text tries to answer the question, whether Socrates itself has used the marking techne maieutike (midwifery) for his actions or whether the term is Plato's invention in the dialogue Theaetetus. It seems that the midwifery does a specific work exactly in that dialog so as e. g. the role of the supposed doctor which Socrates accepts in Charmides. Hence my text comes to the conclusion that the metaphor of midwifery was used by Socrates, but in an unrepeatable situation without taking his effect systematically in this way.
