| Description | THE QUEST FOR PARADISE (Miraculous adventures of St. Brendan in Benoît’s and Zeyer’s legend) During his studies of the religious ideas and philosophical thought of various nations Julius Zeyer concentrated on those which inspired his soul, fulfilled his desires and tallied with his views and hopes of the humanity improved. When adapting old medieval compositions, Zeyer naturally included the one legend which most accorded with his views and which inspired him to commence a quest for his own personal paradise. In his St. Brendan’s Chronicle Zeyer rephrased the 12th century medieval tale Les Voyages merveilleux de saint Brandan a la recherche du Paradis terrestre. |
