Description | The experimental firing of small clay bricks with added minerals at the temperates ranging 500-1000 oC was carried out. Especially green amphiboles, chlorites, biotite and carbonates appeared to be the most suitable minerals for the estimating of firing level. These minerals showed significant changes of colour, pleochroism and birefringence during the firing. Two pottery kilns (La Tene and Late Roman ages) were examined. The material of historic kilns was examined using optical microscopy. Further, microchemism changes were observed. Compared to the results of the experiment, the results of the research of the pottery kilns material showed that the firing temperature must had been higher than 600 oC, but it had not exceed 850 oC. The temperature in the glass kiln ranged 1250-1300 oC. |
