Description | This article is a critical interpretation of selected theoretical musical ideas of the Czech composer Alois Hába (1893 - 1973), which first appeared in his book Neue Harmonielehre (1927). This work is generally considered to be the author's individual expression of his own creative ideas. However, it also links to the past, specifically to the Bohemian theorists who were not influeced by Riemann's Funktionstheorie. Hába's work becomes of greater value when one considers its links to the work of Arnold Schönberg. The interpretation uses a copy of Hába's Neue Harmonielehre annotated by Schoenberg, now in the Schoenberg Center in Vienna. |
