Description Personality and social development can be understood as individual self-improvement as well as an educational system in which education and guidance play a role. It is lifelong pursuit involving formal and informal educators (parents, teachers etc.) and encompassing education ranging from nursery school to university. The latter generally focuses in terms of personality development or rather training on the acquisition of strictly defined competences. The efforts to examine personal training of (not only) educators from different points of view were our major impulse to hold the conference Towards oneself, the others, the profession. It took place on 19th and 20th March 2008 in Brno and was one of the outputs of the project Improving the Quality of Education and Teacher Training for Students of Pedagogy and Social Pedagogy and Guidance: Development of Personality Competence of Graduates under the auspices of a grant by European Social Fund and the budget of the Czech Republic. The main organizers were the Academic Centre for Personality Development and the Department of Educational Sciences at the Faculty of Arts Masaryk University. The aim of the conference was to create space for discussion on professional experience, possibilities of personality and social development in the broad scope of its forms.
