Description Author argues, that in the 10th century there were two meanings of "suburbium". First it was the nearest, mostly fortified area near the city or hillfort, second the area, which has been ruled from (or was under the strong influence of) the city or hillfort - in this meaning ist this word comparable with latin term "civitas". Than the mechanisms of the linkings between the "suburbs" and the cities (or hillfort) are demonstrated.
