Description In this study, we investigate the relationship between development of democracy and the conditions for long-term sustainable economic growth in post-communist countries. We pay attention to the Baltic states (i. e. Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania), then Slovenia, Bulgaria and Romania. We call these the 6CE countries. None of these countries gave up democracy in spite of the fact that the beginning of the transformation process was often hard for them. These countries have been strengthening their principles of democracy though the intensity of this process was often different. It was proved that countries with consolidated political system, balanced relationship between authorities, independent media or low corruption have better conditions for stabilisation of economic growth. Thus their governments easily implement reforms to create the conditions for better competitiveness of these economies.
