Twenty-four hour profile of blood pressure in children, adolescents and young adults after anthracycline therapy

Description | The aim of this study is the cosinor analysis (fit of the cosine curve with a period of 24 hours: MESOR, midline-estimating; AMPLITUDE of the sinusoidal curve; ACROPHASE, timing of period) of the 24-hour recordings of systolic (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) in 45 adolescents and young adults after anticancer therapy with anthracyclines (A) in comparison with 64 healthy controls (Co). A significant correlation between age and MESOR of SBP or DBP was found in Co, but not in A. AMPLITUDE and ACROPHASE were age-independent. MESOR values of SBP and DBP were decreased in A group in the age group of 19-22 years in comparison with Co of the same age. In the age group of 19-22 years, ACROPHASE was shifted in A one hour earlier. Conclusion: The age-dependent increase of BP seen in Co between 11 and 22 years of age does not occur in A group. This finding is consistent with the long-lasting impairment of the sympathetic nervous system caused by anthracycline toxicity. |
