Description The article discusses the function of accent and diaereme (juncture) in Czech. It argues that the placement of accent can be distinctive in certain contexts in Czech. Moreover, it distinguishes between two types of boundaries: phonotactic and para-phonotactic. The former are given by distributional restraints whereas the latter are signaled by suprasegmental means. The notion "diaereme/juncture" is introduced to account for the latter boundaries.
