Description | The article deals with epigrams included in the Anthologia Latina, a late ancient collection of poetry that was most probably composed in 534 AD in the North African city of Carthage. The author focuses especially on one hundred and eight anonymous epideictic epigrams. Particular attention is paid to the question of their authorship, i.e. the dispute over whether these poems were written by one or more poets. A close analysis of the thematic as well as textual interrelations among the individual epigrams points to a logical and highly coherent structure of the poems, which supports the hypothesis that the discussed texts constitute an integral work of a single author. |
