Description | This paper aims to analyse the reasons of an increasing promotion of youth slang in the mass media nowadays. Young people everywhere have similar psychological and sociological motivations to use nonstandard vocabulary and to create neologisms, but its mainly due to the sociocultural atmosphere in a society that this generational slang has begun to be highlighted in the mass media. The youth slang from French suburban areas is a particular case of a variety based on the social, ethnic and/or spatial marginality of its speakers. The two main results of the recent media interest in this slang are the integration of its vocabulary into a 'common slang' on the one hand and its disdain and the lack of understanding on the other hand. |
