Description | From the so far published depictions and analyses of own material it was possible to create a not yet published working typology of depictions of Háríti in Tibetan, Mongolian and Buryat environment. For greater clarity and simplicity, one type was chosen as the basic one, dependent on the frequency of its occurrence. The others refer to it only comparatively, i.e. other types are distinguished by comparison of differences. However, we cannot say that the basic type represents an initial depiction, from which the other types would derive in time and in space. To determine "genetic" (or more likely "memetic") relations between the types published here, extensive research of Háríti in Asia dimensions would have to be carried out and respective transmission lines of the cult and the relevant depictions both in time and space would have to be ascertained. In other words, for the determination of the real basic type of development of Hárítis depictions the prerequisite is to survey the cult, the texts and above all the depictions. Only after this descriptive phase, it would be possible to determine when and where and in what form the "initial depiction", i.e. the basic developmental type of depiction, a visual archetype of "Buddhizied" Háríti existed. Moreover, we can assume that it need not be one type; due to the original ambiguity of Háríti several types may have co-existed. |
