Description | The paper explores a potential of autosegmental representations that has lied waste thus far: association of pieces of melody and syllabic constituents is not necessarily automatic. It may be governed by 1. grammar: morphology issues an order, association is a (piece of a) morpheme (Kabyle Berber), 2. the lexicon: melodic items are lexically specified for associating or not (vowel-zero alternations in Czech). |
