Description How to handle contemporary literature is not the competence that has been stressed in university teacher training in the Czech Republic. Such neglect means, however, losing a potent source of reading skill training as well as the students and their future pupils desire to read. The paper gives a possible course design for the contemporary short German fiction, aimed at students of German language at Faculties of Education. At the same time, it is the methodical resume of a FRVS project (FRVS/1356/2009).
