Description The text stems from the wide range of interests of the Department of Slavic Studies at Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University. Focus on area studies became a hallmark of all Slavic disciplines. Nowadays it’s common to encounter redefinitions of one’s own past, of language and of literature that had been understood so far exclusively nationally, and the history of which tends to be modernized, i.e. invested with features typical for late 19th – early 21st Century. We regard these phenomena as a manifestation of dynamic processes usually linked with the formation of states together with their elites, which presupposes a violent delimitation of previous units and their power structures (Ukraine, Belarus, Slovakia, Croatia etc.). It turns out that Slavic areas are apparently the most dynamically developing areas in terms of their inner transformation processes not only of economical and political, but mainly of linguistically cultural and nationally identifying natures. We fully recognize the key significance of monitoring these processes as soon as we realize how great a portion of EU population Slavic countries represent.
