Description | Surface research into 10 mediaeval castles and small castles supplements the book Burgen Waldviertel und Wachau. The result confirm that there were both stone castles and boroughs and fortified manor houses of woodand clay on either side of the border. The endurance of wood-clay castles in Moravia was influenced by local traditions. The adaption of keeps, gable walls and prismatic and polygonal bergfrieds in Moravia was partially offset by the use of cylindrical towers in Waldviertel. |
