| Description | The paper entitled Václav Antonín Kounic and the Czech university in Moravia deals with an important donation the earl of Kounic made in 1908. He donated a building for Czech students to lease and use the earnings yield to build a university hostel. The donation contributed to the efforts of Czech politicians who tried to establish a Czech university in Brno. The history of the donation was marked by a range of problems and political connotations. The donation was almost forgotten and ignored throughout the 20th century. Today it is commemorated as one of the basic pillars of traditions of modern Masaryk University. The building serves as a seat of the rectors office today. |
