Description The paper examines the influence of a 19th century Greek poet, Andreas Kalvos, on the works of the Greek surrealist poets Andreas Embirikos and Odysseas Elytis in terms of both form and content. First of all, the ideological character of their works and the related structure of the poems are analysed, as well as the literary techniques, grammatical features and stylistic figures that the authors used. In this respect, a number of parallels can be found in the poems of Kalvos and Embirikos and the first part of the paper therefore concentrates on these two poets. I also examine the contents of selected poems and the transference of senses, that is, the rhetorical tropes. For this purpose, the parallels between the works of Kalvos and Elytis are the most interesting.
