| Description | Paper deals with possibilities and problems of Stark and Bainbridge's theory of religion and especially religious affiliation in the light of cognitive approach in social sciences. Both are founders of wider and well-known theory in sociology of religion called rational choice theory (RCT). RCT has created considerable debate and criticism in sociology and religious studies. New wave of criticism was brought about by second generation cognitive science and its impact for social sciences. This approach is represented by cognitive linguist George Lakoff and philosopher Mark Johnson and their theory of metaphor. In this respect examination of scientific construction of conversion is essential and necessary for next theorizing. Under this framework author tries to develop new ways of analyzing conversion phenomena and sketch out new insights. |
