Description | The presentation analyses joint construction of humour in live text commentaries (LTC). This new genre fo online journalism, combining live sports commentary and internet chat, is characterized by quasi-conversational dialogical exchanges between the commentator and readers. Humour is manifested in various rhetorical devices, such as word play, hyperbole and similes, as well as the structural arrangement of some dialogues, where the interlocutors become the targets of joking, teasing and even personal affronts. The linguistic creativity and orientation towards humour in LTC are explained as strategies for the enactment of gendered (male) identity within virtual groups of sports fans. |
