| Description | The practice of banning films has been documented in all socialist cinemas. These restrictions were not rare accidents but rather the component parts of the regime; tools how to communicate with people and indicate changes of a political line. This practice was more complex than institutionalized censorship. The acticle sums up the most influential banning campaigns as well as important periods of liberalization when shelved films were released. Typology, motives and mechanism of banning are discussed too. |
