Description Some inorganic anions (e.g. halides, phosphate, pyrophosphate, carbonate) play an important role in living organisms; they are also used in industry and they are present in natural mineral waters. The azodyes are well known as widely used chromogenic reagents for determination of a number of metal ions. Unfortunately, the determination is in some cases hampered by the presence of interfering anions. In this contribution, we will discuss the results of the analysis of this phenomena for selected systems (uranyl - PAR, Tl(III)-PAR). These systems were used for determination of some anions after optimization of experimental conditions, specifically uranyl-PAR for hygrogencarbonate and for oxalate, as well as Tl(III)-PAR for iodide, bromide, and chloride. Since the color change in aqueous solution caused by a ligand substitution reaction (ML + nX = MXn + L) is sufficiently large, the studied metal complexes can be used as potential inexpensive anion chemosensors available for general practice.
