Description This article deals with the topic of family. In the contemporary most frequent and amongs readers most favourite novels for childern, this topic appears most often and belongs to the most productive. We will mainly focuse on Eliáš a babička z vajíčka by Iva Procházková, Perlorodky by Jiří Stránský and Holky na vodítku by Ivona Březinová. The family creates the basic environment for reference characters. Czech children’s and youth literature pays attention to family crisis, above all to questions about the influence of emotional deprivation on children. For Czech writers, lack of interest of parents plays a very important role in young people‘s life. Compensation has become a fundamental method of family crisis solving. It used to be temporary in novels for small children. Searching for stable compensation used to be the basic motive in stories for teenagers.
