Description | The book is dedicated to Karel Čapek’s play R.U.R., Rossum’s Universal Robots (1920/21) and particularly to Robot characters. Its main objective is to propose new interpretation of the play, an alternative one for the conventional understanding of it in the frame of science-fiction genre, where R.U.R. is usually treated as a text in which Robots act as inhuman monsters, threatening to annihilate humankind. On the contrary, in our interpretation, we present R.U.R. as a play based on situations of confusion in which we can’t decide who is a man a who is a machine (Robot), and in which it is possible to find themes which are elaborated by artists working in the field of robotic art during the second half of the 20th and at the beginning of the 21st century. Thus, we would like to see the book as a small contribution to the archeology of robotic art. |
