Description The paper focuses on the approach of data excerpted from the artists registry entries (in this case, the royal town of Znojmo). At first glance a purely historical (positivist) method can use a suitable extension field of view of other relevant sources to enable the emergence of work on the border between cultural and social history appropriately expanding scope of art history. In the presented paper is mainly devoted attention (on the basis of concrete examples) the origin of individual artists, their journeys to work and family ties. The combination of the information gathered with findings from other sources (urban books, church accounts, etc.) allows the reconstruction operation of workshops, the inclusion of artists in urban social structures and sheds new light on the lives of artists in one of the early modern royal cities.
