Description At a general level, the contribution concentrates on the processing of a database of archaeological sites with a focus on the Early Middle Ages within a particular region of Lower Austria, the creating of a geographic information system (GIS) from the available data and a basic analysis of the data. At a more specific level, there was an attempt to capture the possible agricultural hinterland of a fortified central place in Pohansko near Břeclav including the Austrian territory, although the originally expected prediction was not made in the end mainly due to the insufficient quality of the input data. Additional motifs were the methodology of working in cross-border areas and a critical evaluation of available Austrian archaeological and geographical data.
