Description The article brings reproductions of 24 photographs from the catalogue that was printed on the occasion of the Anthropological Exhibition in Moscow in 1879. Jindřich Wankel brought it from his visit to the exhibition and today it has been held in the inheritance of Karel Absolon. The photographic catalogue offers, for the first time in the history of museum exhibitions, a complex view of the part of the ethnological-anthropological exhibition that was most interesting for the public. The introductory text sets the exhibition into the broad context of anthropological exhibitions in Europe in the second half of the 19th century and describes in detail the circumstances of Wankel’s trip to Russia. The transcription of the exhibition description by the daughter of J. Wankel, Lucie Bakešová is attached; she published it in form of feuilletons in the newspaper Moravská orlice in 1879-1880.
