Description Windy conditions generally play a significant role in shaping the earth's surface, and, therefore, they also indirectly affect the quality of human life. Of course, the wind has not escaped human notice and society has long utilized its power to meet common needs – first in maritime and later also in air transport and with increasing frequency as a source of "environmentally clean" energy from wind power plants. Just like other natural phenomena however, the wind also has its drawbacks. The article discusses a number of wind disasters, including their causes and possible impacts on the ecological stability of landscapes.
